The Queens

My BSH queens are bred from only once a year.

I do not breed litter after litter as I don't believe it's possible to give the queens and their babies the attention they need and deserve if my house was over run throughout the breeding season.

Litters are staggered to enable me to give them maximum time and attention. All kittens have different characters and even within one litter they vary considerably. To know each kitten individually is not possible if there are just too many to get the proper attention that they need, especially during the early weeks when they need handling as much as possible to gain confidence with humans. Besides which over crowding is the kiss of death to cats whose well being depends on them having their own personal space.

Likewise overbreeding is detrimental to the well being of the queen and as a rule my girls retire around the age of five and are given as pets to family and friends who cherish them as members of their family for the rest of their lives.

My queens remain with their kittens indoors from a week before birth until the kittens are totally weaned. They are fed the very best, are kept immaculately clean and are totally waited upon................they deserve it !

Afterwards the queens are rested physically and mentally until the following year. If they kittened early in the year they will be given a small dose of Ovarid to keep them off call and stop them form losing weight. This ensures healthy kittens reared by queens in the peak of condition.

Any kitten retained by me lives indoors until sexually mature. We have a small cattery within feet of the back door, where the girls live in pairs and can view the coming and goings of our busy household at all times. I am home all day and the girls get given titbits and fuss at frequent intervals throughout, as I'm busy with all my animals inside and out every day of the year.
